During the course of the company’s eventful history, Kathi has managed to successfully secure its position as an international manufacturer of cake mixes – supported by the modules of CSB-System.

In 1951, Käthe and Kurt Thiele established the Kathi company and brand, in the times of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). These circumstances are remarkable: they stand for the high degree of popularity the brand still has in the new federal states, but also for the changeful past of the company, which is also a symbol for German history. The first forty years were marked by the foundation, the state as a majority shareholder, the expropriation, the forced incorporation until the reprivatization in 1991 and the subsequent establishment of Kathi Rainer Thiele GmbH. Today, after another twenty years, Kathi presents itself as a state-of-the-art enterprise. According to its own sources, Kathi stays number one on the market for cake mixes in the new federal states, with a market share of 47.6 percent, and number two on the national market with a share of 13.9 percent.

“There is a lot of potential in the old federal states still, but we also successfully placed our first products on the international market. This is also why we will see another increase in sales for 2015, for the first time exceeding 30 million Euros,” managing director Marco Thiele says, satisfied with the current trend. Expanding sales meant an increase in work and requirements for the departments. Therefore, it was just a matter of time when the information technology had to be adapted to the new and steadily growing structures. “Our old software was not able anymore to adequately represent our company and processes nor to provide reports that are vital for controlling the business,” Stefan Hartelt, head of Organization & Technology, explains the motives for changing. After long and intense research, the company decided in 1999 to go for the software by CSB-System. “Our objective was to represent the entire enterprise in one software and to eliminate stand-alone solutions as much as possible. With CSB, we have reached our goal. What’s more, many of our business customers have been using the system, so we anticipated a lot of synergies,” Hartelt comments the decision process.
